VOYEUR NIGHTCLUB
West Hollywood, with its homogenous, faux Irish pubs and sports bars, has been in desperate need of something new. Or, in this case, something really old. Taking over the space that was previously Peanuts in West Hollywood, Voyeur Nightclub has become the newest addition to Los Angeles’ upscale club scene.
Voyeur Nightclub - Of course no high-end establishment with high-end backers would come right out and call itself a sex club... but, there's a guest list, the female employees disrobe, pornographic pictures double as wallpaper, and patrons are advised to be "uninhibited" in the photo booth. In addition, this place's classy: tea sandwiches are served; cocktails are organic. Just nibble, sip, n' relax in a leather chair.
In the 90s, the space had housed the infamous Grandville nightlife parties, which brought comparison to New York’s club scene. Now, the team of David Koral and Matt Bendik (former VP of The Light Group in Las Vegas) has big plans on taking L.A. nightlife to the edge, with shades of corruption with elegance and eroticism. Koral and Bendik and The Davis Brothers (the brainchild behind The Gate, Chi, Dragonfly, The Lounge, and AD) have brought in Nick Montealegre (previously at Teddy’s, Lobby and Hyde) to head promotions, and Michael Kassar, (formerly of Spago Beverly Hills) as General Manager.
The dose of nightlife that comes with Voyeur Nightclub is darker and more sinister than you might be used to, with the 6,000-square-foot space maintaining a bordello-esque air as guests must ring a doorbell to be let in by the host. The newly-minted team have polished things up with massive metal sphere chandeliers with spiked lighting, black leather drapery with brass rings and green leather chesterfield sofas. The dark wooded room with low tables and brass and gilded antique mirrors further add to the retro theme. However, the panel of near-naked girls chained to the wall in various poses of merriment brings the whole bordello package together.
Pleasant surprises abound on the cocktail list, including a watermelon jalapeno, blueberry mint and cucumber olive shots. Arrive early – this is a hard door to crack.
