The Conga Room – This famous establishment is owned by superstars Jimmy Smits, Jennifer Lopez, Paul Rodriguez, and Sheila E. It’s known for its dazzling architecture, blending elements of Barcelona, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Alex Garcia, Conga Room’s Executive Chef, is also celebrated for putting Calle Ocho and Babalu on the map in New York City. Having swept onto the LA social scene in 1998, the Conga Room hosted record launches, movie debuts, award shows, and parties, including the 2001 Latin Grammy Award Presentation. Top Latin legends, such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, the Buena Vista Social Club, Shakira, Juanes, and Carlos Santana have all performed here. After closing its original doors, the Conga Room reopened in December 2008 as part of L.A. LIVE, the new downtown entertainment district. It’s still widely known today for its unforgettable live performances and mouthwatering Latin dishes.

Brad Gluckstein’s new Conga Room, which opens to the public December 4th, will likely to be one of downtown’s hottest destinations for latin music fans when word gets out the venue is open at the L.A. Live complex this winter. Once owned by a group of high-profile celebs, including Jimmy Smits, Jennifer Lopez, Paul Rodriguez and Sheila E., the club (housed on Wilshire Boulevard along L.A.’s Miracle Mile from 1998 until it closed in 2006), is expected to draw some big names from the world of Latin music such as the Gypsy Kings, who have been tapped to headline the Conga Room for New Year’s Eve.

Expect a restaurant inside (Boca, featuring pan-latin cusine) and club nights such as their Friday “beat down” (global beat and dance groove).
